ABOUT IMAGO SMITHING CO

My name is Claire Jacques and I am the founder, owner, & creator behind Imago Smithing Co. I started my jewelry making & metalsmithing journey in 2016. On a whim, I decided to take a jewelry art class at Northern Michigan University & instantly fell in love.

The process is absolutely captivating… something about bending, cutting, soldering, hammering, filing, & polishing metal brings me the greatest sense of joy. Seeing something beautiful, that I created with my hands out of a sheet of metal and the occasional stone, satisfies every creative bone in my body & from the minute I completed my first piece, I knew this was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. 

I started selling jewelry in a sorta legit way in 2020 under the name Silver Petal Jewelry. I rebranded in 2023 to Imago Smithing Company and gave a fresh name to my craft. My journey in metalsmithing has been on-again off-again for years and is constantly evolving. My husband, Sam, and I finished building our house in 2022 and I’m excited to finally have a studio space to call my own! 

As far as the non-jewelry aspect of my life - I finished my education at NMU (B.S. in Cognitive & Behavioral Neuroscience, & M.S. in Post-Secondary Biology Education) in May 2018, and started as a full-time professor at NMU, teaching various classes including Anatomy & Physiology, Research Methods in Psychology, Neuropsychology, and Brain & Behavior to name a few. I quit teaching in 2022 and I am now the office manager at Lake Superior Press - a small print shop in Marquette, Michigan that my husband & father-in-law own.
